Every single registered domain name has no less than two Name Server records that show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your Internet domain to the servers of a certain web hosting provider. This way, you've got both your site and your emails managed by the exact same provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there is a variety of other records, like A and MX. The first one shows which server handles the website for a given Internet domain and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one reveals which server handles the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For example, whenever you type a domain name in your web browser, your request is sent through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain name uses and from there you may be forwarded to the servers of a different service provider in case you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain. Having independent records for the site and the emails means that you can have your website and your e-mails with 2 different companies if you wish.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Website Hosting

If you have a cloud website hosting through us, you'll be able to see, create and change any A or MX record for your domains. As long as a particular Internet domain has our Name Servers, you'll be able to modify specific records by using our Hepsia hosting CP and have your site or e-mails pointed to any other provider if you wish to use only one of our services. Our innovative tool will enable you to have a domain address hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted elsewhere by modifying only its A record - this will not affect the main domain name at all. If you choose to use the email services of a different service provider and they want you to create more than two MX records, you can easily do it with just a couple of clicks in the DNS Records section of your Control Panel. You can even set different latency for every single MX record i.e. which one is going to have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with our Linux semi-dedicated servers, allows you to see the A and MX records for each of the domain addresses or subdomains in your account and if required, to update any of them or create new ones. Handling these records is very easy because all domains/subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically, so updating a record is as easy as entering it in a box and saving the change. Creating a new one takes a few more clicks and if you experience any problems, you can check out our educational videos on how to set up A and MX records. Our system is intuitive enough to be used by individuals with no previous experience, yet advanced enough to offer you full control over all records and to allow you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you're pointing your emails to a different company and they ask you to set up more than two different MX records, you can choose the priority of each one.
